Mount Lesueur is a prominent flat-topped hill located within Lesueur National Park, approximately 30 kilometers from Jurien Bay and a three-hour drive north of Perth, Western Australia. Definitely worth the look.

WA's wildflower diversity is honestly hard to keep up with even with a name for every bloom.It was a great trip through Lesueur.

Black Kangaroo Paw (Macropidia fuliginosa). The green tubular flowers with black velvety fur are a WA endemic and one of the state's most iconic wildflowers, found in coastal heath and sandplain country north of Perth.

Key visitor information includes:

  • Wildflower Season: The area is renowned for its abundance of unique wildflowers, particularly from July to October. Visitor reviews suggest visiting after July for the best blooms.
  • Entry Fee: There is a vehicle entry fee of $15.
  • Facilities: The Drumonds Day Use Area at the foot of the Gairdner Range serves as the trailhead, featuring interpretive signs. There is no camping or overnight accommodation within the park; visitors must bring their own food, water, and sun protection.

Flora: Over 1,100 species of flora, amounting to 10% of WA's known flora — including several species found nowhere else in the world. Species include acacias, hibbertias, leschenaultias, melaleucas, gastrolobiums, and many orchid varieties (pink enamel, purple enamel, cowslip, blue lady, white spider, donkey). In spring, several varieties of kangaroo paw are prominent.

An 18.5km sealed loop scenic drive takes you to the top of Mount Lesueur for panoramic views across the park and coastline. Walk trails range from a 400m Botanical Path up to a 4km return climb of Mount Lesueur.

Looking out at Iain Wilson Lookout at Mt Lesueur, in Lesueur National Park 

The Mount Lesueur (Lesueur) Trail is 3.5 km return, starting from Drummond car park and passing Iain Wilson Lookout on the way to the summit.

  • First 250 m: sealed, pram/wheelchair-friendly, to the lookout
  • Rest: sandy trail climbing via switchbacks to the summit mesa (313 m elevation)
  • If you add the Gairdner Loop, total is 5.1 km we but passed on that one.
