Walhalla

Walhalla

Our day trip to Walhalla was on a chilly morning . A pretty historic town nestled on a mountainside. The roads are very narrow winding through the Victorian high country towing our little caravan as we do, approximately 2.5 hours from Melbourne. Well worth the drive out. I loved the beautiful historic buildings and the lush scenery.

Walhalla's centrepiece is its narrow-gorge Heritage Railway trail.

That draws visitors from far and wide.

Walhalla thrived during the goldrush era 1800s but was virtually abandoned once the gold run out in early 1900s ,the isolation is exactly what preserved it so well .

Options for accommodation in Walhalla is limited but there are there cosy cottages, holiday homes and apartments, ideal for couples, families and groups wanting a home-away-from-home feel. Also found a few campsites in the area .

Such beautiful scenery and colour throughout the mountain.

Best time to visit Spring & autumn for mild weather and lush scenery. Summer weekends get busy. Winter is atmospheric but cold and misty.

Take your time make it either a day trip or overnight stay — lots to see.
